A structured method for observing and recording anomalous experience before interpretation begins.
What is Limintrace?
Limintrace provides a structure for examining anomalous experience without deciding its cause in advance.
It does not begin by dismissing the strange. Nor does it begin by naming it. It begins with the trace: what was observed, the conditions surrounding it, what changed and what was left behind.
Interpretation comes later.
The Limintrace Method
Four stages keep the experience separate from the explanation.
Observation
What happened?
Record what was directly seen, heard, felt, measured or otherwise noticed.
Variables
What else was present?
Note the people, place, conditions, equipment, expectations and environmental factors surrounding the experience.
Interpretation
What might it mean?
Consider possible explanations without folding them into the original observation.
Claim
What can honestly be said?
State what the record supports, how certain you are and what remains unknown.
What Limintrace Is and Is Not
Limintrace can be used in paranormal, folkloric and place-based fieldwork, or whenever an anomalous experience needs to be documented. It is not a séance, a method for identifying entities or a promise of proof.
It begins with a record, not a conclusion. Ordinary explanations are considered without being forced. Personal experience is recorded without being treated as proof. The claim should never outrun the trace.
Begin with The First Trace
An Introduction to Limintrace Fieldwork
The First Trace is the entry point into the Limintrace method.
In one focused session, you will learn how to document anomalous experience without flattening it into either proof or dismissal. You will work through Observation, Variables, Interpretation and Claim using the Limintrace Field Note.
By the end, you will have completed a Field Note and be able to use the method in your own fieldwork.

An Immersive Application of the Limintrace Method
The Limintrace Fieldwork Weekend build on The First Trace through expanded teaching, guided site fieldwork, Field Note practice, case discussion and responsible language around reported experience.
It is intended for those who have completed The First Trace or have equivalent fieldwork experience.
Future dates to be announced.
Private Team Sessions
Limintrace can be adapted for paranormal teams, spiritual groups, venue holders, writers, researchers and organisations working with anomalous experience or haunted-place narratives.
Sessions may include group training, Field Note practice, guided fieldwork, venue documentation and responsible language around reported phenomena.

Limintrace was developed by Liadán Hallow, The Liminal Linguist, through her work with liminality, folklore, place and the language used around anomalous experience.
The method is currently being taught and tested through The First Trace, with its Field Notes and wider fieldwork materials refined through practice, documentation and feedback.
